A Conservative View on Liberalism

Dearest Conservatives,

We ask ourselves, what does it mean to be a conservative? We regret those who portray and slander us as backwards, when as a matter of fact tradition has carried us a long way. Tradition and organicism have been tried and tested, and stay true to ourselves. Tradition and modernism are not mutually exclusive. Tradition and measured change always bring out the best in people. There is a reason why we still have a status quo, and not forgo it to risk a future that may yield less. We will be the last bastion for all people, while the liberals will seek to be a future bastion for those that may never exist.

Under the conservatives, it does not matter your social, economic or even political leanings. Under the conservatives, consensus and respect are fundamental, which are not guaranteed under most other ideological strands including liberalism. These fundamental tenets drive sociopolitical harmony, and in return drive greater progress more than liberalism. Going further, respect is why while we principally do not believe the liberals are the best fit to occupy all offices, we will nonetheless strike dialogues with them to attain a mutual understanding.

Under the conservatives, we recognise the flaws within society and of governance. But that does not precipitate the need for wholesale change. A much more pragmatic, achievable and sensible path is that of reform. We reform not because we are scared of change; we reform because we want to know why we get things wrong, so that we can make things right. Overreaching and over-sweeping change which does not account for why we get things wrong could never guarantee change to be more right.

Under the conservatives, we recognise our overlaps with the liberals in terms of a better future. We differ from each other in terms of how to best change, and we’ve outlined to you our case, based on the greatest possible grasp of history and human nature.

There is now only one thing left to do.

Choose conservatism.
