A Liberal pamphlet has been gaining notable traction among the citizenry as of late. This pamphlet was then distributed in the cities of Caracas, Maracaibo, Bogotá, Panama city, Quito and Popayán, in the main squares and universities of these cities, by various believers of liberalism, including teachers and university professor. It has become popular among liberals, largely lower level officials and educated people. It is interesting to consider how this proposition will affect the behaviour of delegates at the Convention of Ocana. The pamphlet was authored by Carlos Soublette, and the main details are reprinted below.
Preamble:
Dear Distinguished citizen of our honorable convention, I call on you with the idea of liberty, freedom and progress. I proposed to you the creation of the Liberal party, to represent our common goals and establish Political stability to our ever developing nation. For we work for the people, by the people and with the people. Onwards towards progress!! Policies: This party main issues will involved:
- Abolition of slavery as the main goal
- Industrialisation of our nation using foreign investment, using only Colombian manpower (criollos, pardos, mestizos, recently liberated slaves)
-Increase tariffs on Agricultural imports
-‘All citizens are equal under law regardless of race or religion’
-Federalism shall be the main goal of our nation, for it is the most efficient form of government available to man
Details for the party:
- The is going to be a president and a vice president of this party, electorally elected by members of this party democratically.
- Any citizen of our nation can be member of the party if they pay 2 pesos
- Party election will be hosted every 3 years.
- Members of the party shall elect the president and vicepresident of the party in the Party elections and all votes should be weighted equally, without discrimination in the bases of wealth, race or religion
Slogan of the party: Be cool, be liberal
